NoVA increase 2021

ÖAMTC-Verkehrswirtschaftsexperte Martin Grasslober

“When it comes to NoVA, it can be expected that a good half of all new cars will become more expensive from January 1, 2021,” says ÖAMTC transport economics expert Martin Grasslober. "In these cases, the NoVA rate increases by one percentage point. For a car worth 30,000 euros net, this usually means an increase of 300 euros compared to 2020." The motor-related insurance tax mVSt will be 34.56 euros per year higher for almost all cars that will be registered for the first time from January 1, 2021 than for a first registration today. Only for more efficient or less powerful cars will there be a lower or no tax increase. “Important to know: There will be no change in taxation for vehicles that have already been registered,” the ÖAMTC expert clarifies. The mobility club clearly spoke out against these automatic tax increases in 2019. "Regardless of whether consumers react to greening, the automation will lead to tax increases. Instead, from the ÖAMTC's perspective, the situation should be reassessed when more efficient new vehicles actually come onto the road," criticizes Grasslober. “Otherwise, this regulation only serves to increase revenue for the public sector.”
