NoVA exemption for people with disabilities
The new regulation has been in force since July 1, 2021 and now also applies to leasing vehicles.

NoVA exemption for people with disabilities
Since July 1, 2021, the exemption from the standard consumption tax (NoVA) for people with disabilities has been linked to the exemption from the motor-related insurance tax. Barbara Reiter, expert for disability advice at the mobility club ÖAMTC, explains: "It is best to have confirmation of this issued by the registration office when the vehicle is registered. The prerequisite for this is possession of an Austrian disability pass with an additional entry stating that it is unreasonable to use public transport or blindness. Furthermore, the vehicle must only be registered for people with disabilities. You have up to 14 days after purchasing the vehicle to provide the dealer with the necessary confirmation to leave.”
New vehicles (now also with leasing financing) as well as demonstration cars and daily registrations (maximum registration period of three months) can be exempt from NoVA. “Exemption from the NoVA is also possible when importing a used vehicle and registering it for the first time in Austria; in this case, the processing is carried out via the tax office,” says the ÖAMTC expert. If you have any questions about the NoVA exemption and other benefits when purchasing and operating a vehicle, the mobility club is available to advise all members with physical disabilities, relatives and interested parties with service points on the subject of disability and mobility in Vienna and Salzburg.
