Lower Austria hits the e-gas

At the end of 2020, there were exactly 12,626 electric vehicles on Lower Austria's roads - more than ever before. "This puts us number one in the ranking of the federal states. We owe this top value, among other things, to the increasing environmental awareness of the population, but also to the excellent general conditions in Lower Austria. The state has implemented a large number of measures in recent years that have made e-mobility more and more attractive for everyday use - the dense network of charging stations is just one example, albeit a very important one," explains LH-Deputy. Stephan Pernkopf.

But it's not just the environment that benefits from the rapidly increasing interest in electric vehicles, but also the local economy. As part of the state initiative “e-mobile in Lower Austria”, a representative survey on the opportunities and risks of electromobility was carried out in the Lower Austrian supplier industry in 2020. "Companies see great opportunities for increasing value creation in the development of e-vehicles. However, in order to utilize this potential, active commitment in the area of development and innovation is required. The state initiative 'e-mobil in Lower Austria' is the right contact here," says State Councilor for Economic Affairs Jochen Danninger.

During the expert discussions, more than 50 concrete, implementable ideas for projects and measures were developed, 14 of which have already been fleshed out. The state initiative is being implemented by Ecoplus. Ecoplus Managing Director Helmut Miernicki: "As part of 'e-mobil in Lower Austria', several follow-up projects are now being tackled. The content ranges from the topics of charging infrastructure and fleet management, to the construction of hydrogen filling stations, to driving dynamics in autonomous vehicles. The development in the area of alternative mobility is often just beginning and I am very pleased that we can make a contribution to ensuring that Lower Austria's companies are at the forefront here."
