Even more gas stations

The current WKO survey shows a total of 2,748 publicly accessible gas stations in Austria, a slight increase of 15 gas stations compared to the previous year. There are currently 1,322 major-branded service stations, which include the brands of FVMI member companies bp, Eni, JET, OMV and Shell. The other group includes a total of 1,426 gas stations from numerous other gas station brands, such as Turmöl, Genol, Avia or A1. Compared to last year, the number of major-branded gas stations has decreased slightly, while the number of other gas stations has increased.

The distribution among the 1,322 major-branded gas stations is as follows: 321 Eni, 263 Shell, 227 bp, 213 OMV, 161 JET and 137 Avanti (OMV). Of these gas stations, 1,127 have a shop and 840 have a bistro. 409 major-branded gas stations are open around the clock. Of the total of 2,748 gas stations across Austria, there are 869 gas stations with a 24-hour supply. The motorway filling stations (excluding expressways) as a special form of service station are particularly important for transit traffic and remained unchanged at 72 in 2021. “The companies' forward-looking policy ensures full tank reserves or secured mandatory emergency reserves,” emphasizes Hedwig Doloszeski, Managing Director of the FVMI.

The number of charging stations at domestic gas stations increased from 71 to 84 in 2021, 56 of which are major-branded gas stations. You can fill up with CNG (natural gas) at 133 gas stations, 96 of which are major-branded service stations, and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas or autogas) at 40 gas stations, 22 of which are major-branded. The tank can also be filled with hydrogen at five OMV stations. “Our member companies have already embarked on the path to a climate-neutral future and work is ongoing to expand the offering at the filling station in order to pave the way for the mobility transition in Austria,” says Doloszeski.
