The international startup “swapp” wants to start a new mobility trend in Vienna. That's what lies behind it.

“Owning your own car will no longer play a role in the future, especially in urban areas. Because buying or leasing are old concepts that are now being overtaken by new ideas,” say swapp founders Zoltán Fekete, Zsolt Poprocsi and Christoph Wossala. Shortly before the pandemic, they founded their flexible car subscription startup in 2020. And we're starting it in the middle of the 2020/2021 Corona crisis because many people still prefer to take the car rather than the subway. Personal needs also played a role. Christoph Wossala: "Today you may still be single, but a few years later you have a family and a dog. So which car should you buy or lease? Our lives are constantly changing and unpredictable. Most people therefore do not choose the car that they really love, but rather a compromise."
Rent or swap?
With swapp, there are no start-up or registration fees associated with leasing contracts. The monthly subscription fee is all-inclusive, intended to be transparent and cover all costs related to the car – all you have to do is fill up the tank and drive off. The focus is on long-term rentals using open-end booking and can be canceled at any time after the first 30 days with a notice period of 14 days. Christoph Wossala: "The use of a car is no longer tied to a large investment or private ownership. We have developed an inclusive and uncompromising service that is cheaper than most leasing, purchasing or rental alternatives." There are no maintenance, repair or insurance costs for the cars for users. Swapp is also the first car subscription provider on a 'pay as you go' basis: users only pay for the number of kilometers they actually drive. This is intended to ensure fair billing, better cost planning and more transparency throughout the entire process.
All Viennese between 21 and 75 who have had a driving license for at least three years can now use swapp: https://joinswapp.com – Private individuals and business customers. There is currently a 15 percent discount on the monthly rental subscription. Payment is made via credit card.
“Our service is sustainable in the sense of Circular economy. Because it extends the life cycle of cars that are no longer brand new but are still completely intact. If these cars are used more, on the other hand, fewer new ones have to be produced or scrapped,” says Hanna Herresthal.
