MOON starts production of second-life battery storage
MOON, a subsidiary of Porsche Holding, is launching RE:LIFE, a system for the secondary use of electric vehicle batteries. After successful testing, the first units will be installed in a small series at pilot locations.
MOON's RE:LIFE project recycles used batteries from electric vehicles as stationary energy storage devices. After technical testing and conversion, the modules are integrated into modular cabinet systems. A prototype installed in Salzburg in 2024 showed possible uses such as self-consumption optimization, temporary storage of PV energy and grid stabilization. The system has a capacity of 411 kWh, is modularly scalable and is controlled by the OptiMOON energy management system. In the summer of 2025, the project received the green light for a small series.
