“Many manufacturers are withdrawing from the small car segment, but we are sending a strong sign of life here with our new Space Star,” emphasizes Kostelecky at the Mitsubishi annual press conference. The European premiere of the third generation of the inexpensive small car will be celebrated at the Vienna Auto Show next week. “The new Space Star is finally a worthy successor to the Colt, which found over a million buyers across Europe at the time,” says Mitsubishi PR manager Friedrich Sommer. For him, the press conference is also his farewell performance after decades of working for the Denzel Group. Sommer hands over his agenda to the 28-year-old economist Michael Ellies and goes into well-deserved retirement. “We are particularly proud of the performance of our L200 pickup, which reached third place in sales statistics in 2019 after the Ford Ranger and VW Amarok,” says Kostelecky happily. This year he wants to exceed the 730 units sold last year. “We want to reach 1,000,” said Kostelecky. The recently agreed cooperation with the Red Bull Ring, which has selected Mitsubishi as its official 4×4 partner, should help. Several L200 pickups will be available for adventurous off-road trips on the extensive, demanding off-road course in Spielberg. However, the Eclipse Cross model did not meet the Mitsubishi importer's high expectations, finding only 502 buyers in 2019 and thus falling 22 percent compared to the previous year.
