More solar power for the trucks of tomorrow
Steyr Automotive and Energie Burgenland are establishing a new cooperation: the largest rooftop photovoltaic system in Austria will be built in 2022 and will sustainably change the future.

“We will be CO in 20352-free production," emphasized Steyr Automotive owner and Supervisory Board President Siegfried Wolf on Wednesday at the presentation of the future collaboration between Steyr Automotive and Energie Burgenland to build the largest roof-mounted photovoltaic system in Austria. "The automotive industry is the driver of new technologies and it is the driver of CO2-Neutrality," said Wolf. "If we don't manage to eliminate CO by 20352-free production, we are no longer considered by important clients.” The entire Austrian industry is faced with an enormous task. “Green Production, Green Drive” is the goal. "In the coming years, Steyr Automotive will be intensively upgrading in the area of green, modern, electric mobility. We will be a model factory for electric buses, electric trucks and hydrogen vehicles," emphasized Steyr Automotive Managing Director Florian Mayrhofer and continues: "We want to build a GreenTech factory of the future and thus become a model company in the region, in Austria and Europe. That's why our answer to this is: renewable electricity, directly at the location and on site produced.”
With a total of 17,000 panels installed on the Steyr Automotive factory roofs, an output of around 7,700 kWp is produced. This means that around 25 percent of the plant's electricity consumption is covered. For comparison: This corresponds to the consumption of 2,300 households and a saving of around 2,880 tons of CO2 per year. “Together we are investing several million euros in this location for a photovoltaic system that will provide green electricity for this plant for decades,” says Stephan Sharma, CEO of Energie Burgenland.
