Magna builds lightweight tailgates

As one of the largest automotive suppliers, Magna offers vehicle manufacturers its exclusive know-how in the development and production of lightweight, recyclable tailgate modules that enable weight savings of up to 25 percent compared to steel versions. “This means CO2"Emissions are reduced, the range of electric vehicles is extended, and aerodynamics are also improved," said Magna Exteriors President Grahame Burrow. They also allow greater design freedom and offer manufacturers the opportunity to make facelifts in the middle of a model's life cycle more cost-effective. Magna manufactured the first thermoplastic tailgate in 2014 for the Nissan Rogue in the USA, now followed by the Jeep Cherokee 2019 and the Acura RDX 2019 SUV model from Honda's luxury brand. In total, more than 3 million hatchbacks have already left Magna's production lines.
