With an order from a global automobile manufacturer, Magna's “Clearview” mirror technology will come onto the market in several vehicle models in 2022.

Thanks to a combination of camera and mirror technology with intelligent image processing systems, electronics and software, the Clearview system displays an adjustable live video image in the interior mirror from multiple cameras mounted on the length and rear of the vehicle. “The Clearview system provides drivers with more information about the side and rear surroundings of their vehicle,” said John O’Hara, president of Magna Mechatronics, Mirros and Lighting. The Clearview interior mirror offers the ability to electronically switch between a conventional rearview mirror and a video display. It features an adjustable field of view that can display up to three camera views simultaneously. This is particularly helpful if the driver's rear view is restricted by additional passengers, cargo or trailers. In addition, the manufacturer or vehicle logo can be inserted through a touch interface. A camera is integrated into each Clearview exterior mirror, which provides a live image of the rear and side surroundings. The exterior mirror also has safety and comfort functions such as surround view cameras, blind spot assistants, can be automatically dimmed and folded and can be equipped with additional front and rear lights.
