KYB brings semi-active motorcycle chassis into series production
Semi-active chassis are already known in motorcycle construction. Now KYB is also playing in the same league as Öhlins and Sachs and is presenting the KYB Actimatic damper system, or KADS for short. The first motorcycle with the system is the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT. The aim is to master the balancing act between comfort and sport.
The fully adjustable electronic front and rear suspension is controlled by the six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and the Engine Control Unit (ECU). The Suspension Control Unit (SCU) calculates the optimal settings for the suspension damping. Damping settings are instantly adjusted via a magnet to achieve a smooth and safe ride, regardless of load or driving conditions. The mode is set via the TFT display.
The suspension system is designed to produce a consistent damping force even when the suspension piston moves slower. Overall, KADS always wants to increase the stability of the bike - regardless of the riding condition. The electronically controlled system controls the rebound and compression stages of the front fork and the rebound damping on the shock absorber in the rear.
