KMU Research Austria presents the economic observation report for trade and craft for the second quarter of 2020. The results are not pleasing.
SME research: The economy is collapsing massively
The year 2020 has not been a good one for domestic SMEs so far. According to SME research, sales for automotive technicians fell by an average of 11.4 percent in the first quarter of 2019, and by 8.5 percent in trade and craft. The assessment of the business situation for the second quarter is not good:
- 5 Prozent der Betriebe bewerten die Geschäftslage als gut (Vorjahr 29%)
- 31 Prozent als saisonüblich (Vorjahr 64%)
- und 64 Prozent bewerten die Geschäftslage als schlecht (Vorjahr 7%)
Dramatic: 66 percent of companies report a decline in sales in the second quarter, only one percent is above the previous year. A third recorded no changes in sales.
Sales expectations for the third quarter are similarly bleak:
- 12 Prozent der Betriebe erwarten eine Umsatzsteigerung gegenüber dem 3. Quartal 2019
- 41 Prozent erwarten keine Veränderung
- und 47 Prozent gegen von einem Umsatzrückgang aus
Pleasing: Only ten percent of companies plan to reduce their number of employees in the third quarter. 79 percent want to maintain the number of employees, eleven percent can imagine increasing the number of employees.
