No AutoZu 2022?
It should have been a step back to normality, but instead a déjà vu is now emerging: AutoZum is likely to fall victim to the pandemic again, as it did in 2021.

No AutoZu 2022?
The organizer Reed Exhibitions is officially still keeping quiet, but the rumor mill is bubbling and at least there is no denial: the AutoZum industry trade fair is now also shaking in 2022. In autumn 2020, the trade fair for the automotive after-sales sectors, which was scheduled for January 2021, was postponed to 2022 due to Corona. Now AutoZum was actually supposed to take place from March 15th to 18th – as usual in Salzburg.
However, new Covid infections are currently exploding there again. The 7-day incidence, i.e. the number of new infections with the coronavirus in the past seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, is over 1,600 in Salzburg. This is the highest value in Austria. Nationwide the value is 841.7. Overall, the situation seems to be escalating again due to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. Conceivably unfavorable conditions for a mass event like AutoZum, although there is still some time until March. Of course, exhibitors need a certain amount of lead time, but above all they need certainty. And nobody can offer you that at the moment.
Cancellation or postponement?
In this respect, there could very well be something to the rumors surrounding AutoZum. Even then, the question would still arise as to whether the trade fair would be postponed to a later date in 2022 or again for a whole year. It was secretly reported to the automotive industry from industry circles that the trade fair could actually be canceled for this year.
In fact, a postponement would not be easy at all. Incidentally, another industry event has already done this: The KLS - Bodywork, Painting & Damage Management Days at Messe Wieselburg have already been postponed from the end of January to the beginning of October 2022 due to the corona pandemic. Before that, in September, the Automechanika is scheduled to take place in Frankfurt. The Tire Cologne tire trade fair is planned before the traditional summer slump, namely at the end of May.
In short, the trade fair calendar for the German-speaking industry is already packed as the year progresses. And even here, the sword of Damocles of the pandemic looms over everything as a factor of uncertainty. But let's assume the best here: that the Corona situation will calm down over the course of the year. There would be a risk of competing with other events. It is also questionable whether the trade fair would even have free space for an event of this size at a later date. And finally, the most important exhibitors would also have to agree on a new date, which is not an easy undertaking. Because not every company finds every time equally convenient for a trade fair.
The next few days will be exciting because a decision must be made urgently. If there really was a cancellation, it would be a shame. Because a bit of normality and finally social contacts again would be good for all of us!
