Keba relies on the right horses

“With the three business areas Industrial Automation, Handover Automation and Energy Automation, we are positioned like a tripod,” says Keba CEO Gerhard Luftensteiner. Even during the pandemic, Linz's automation solutions for machines and robots, cash dispensers and parcel machines as well as charging stations and wallboxes were in demand worldwide like never before. Keba's international business share is still around 90%, around 68% goes to the EU and 14% to Asia. “When we started with the e-charging stations in 2009, there were many doubters who believed that electromobility had no future prospects,” says Luftensteiner. Today, with over 250,000 wallboxes installed in the EU to date, Keba is part of the Champions League in the rapidly growing e-mobility market. Of the technology company's total of 1,750 employees, around half work in Austria, a third in Germany and almost 200 employees in China and Asia. 39 apprentices are currently being trained in Linz, and thanks to the rapid growth, Keba is currently looking for around 70 new employees.

New structure for growth

From autumn 2021, the three business areas will operate as independent companies and conduct operational business within the Keba Group, but will continue to operate under the strong common Keba brand. The background is the different characteristics of the three business areas, explains Luftensteiner. Industrial Automation has a focus on the OEM sector, Handover Automation is a project business with the production of self-service machines in the banking and logistics sector, and Energy Automation is a series business close to end customers with its wallboxes for electric cars and heating control systems. Energy Automation is one of the pioneers of charging solutions for electric vehicles. Thanks to a variety of interfaces, the wall boxes from Linz can also be networked with various systems such as photovoltaic systems. “We are expecting growth again this year,” says Luftensteiner, “because the order situation is good.”
