Intelligent damping system for original equipment
The Intelligent Damping Control (IDC) system is the latest innovative technology developed by KYB and is used on a selection of vehicles.

In Europe it is used by PSA in the DS7 under the name DS Active Scan Suspension. It will also be used in the Peugeot 508 and the new DS9, which will be launched in 2021. In Japan it is available for the Lexus LS and LC as well as the Toyota Crown and Avalon.
This intelligent technology uses a mono camera behind the windshield that analyzes the road profile and sends it to the IDC central electronic unit. It works with four height sensors and three accelerometers to measure reactions such as speed, braking and steering angle of the vehicle.
The control unit continuously calculates the optimal shock absorber settings to mitigate irregularities, improve comfort and create a unique and quiet driving experience. This is done via a proportional solenoid valve on each damper, which regulates the internal pressure between the upper and lower chambers, allowing individual control of compression and rebound on all four wheels. Tests have shown that the benefits are particularly noticeable in the rear seats, as the sensing system reduces vibrations that can occur over bumps. This may sound like an improvement in driving comfort, but it also has a positive effect on safety. Smoother driving means all four wheels have better contact with the road, allowing for safer steering and braking. A smoother ride will also reduce driver fatigue.
