The Nissan subsidiary Infiniti is withdrawing from the German and Western European markets. Apparently the niche in the luxury segment left by the established European premium brands was too small. Instead, the Renault-Nissan alliance wants to increase its efforts to push Infiniti in the major markets of North America and China. The news is particularly painful for the Infiniti employees at the Sunderland site in Great Britain. Current production of the Infiniti compact models Q30 and QX30 is scheduled to stop there in the summer. Around 2,000 employees are affected.
