Importers to the Minister

The managers of the main importers who together cover around three quarters of the market, the extended steering committee so to speak, took part - on the initiative of the AK of Automobile Importers. “An eco-premium like in 2009 would be desirable,” explains Christian Pesau, CEO of the AK of Automobile Importers. In 2009, the state and the automotive industry paid 1,500 euros per car purchase. Pesau said the subsidy could now be linked to “ecological measures”: “There could be staggered support based on CO2 emissions.” The industry representatives not only brought up a potential eco-bonus, but also the current burning concerns in general. The feedback he has received from dealers so far has been “dramatic,” said Pesau. A slump in new car sales could have “devastating consequences” for numerous dealers. Economic stimulus packages were therefore also called for and a postponement of the first part of the current tax reform, which also includes changes to benefits in kind and NoVA. Minister Schramböck has not yet made any specific commitments. The only thing that is certain is that from May 2, 2020, the remaining 20% of the car dealership showrooms (those larger than 400 m2) will be allowed to open.
