Hyundai shows new electric car platform
Hyundai has its newElectric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP)presented, a special platform for battery electric vehicles (BEV). The electric cars, which are based on the E-GMP, should have a range of over500 km (WLTP)reach and via quick charging within18 minutes to 80 percent chargedcan be. The Korean manufacturer is also announcing a high-performance model on the new platform that will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 260 km/h. The Integrated Power Electric System includes the world's firstMulti-charging (400V/800V) and bidirectional power conversion function
"E-GMP is the culmination of years of research and development and brings together our most innovative technologies. Our BEV offering will continue to evolve and be strengthened by this innovative new platform"said Fayez Abdul Rahman, senior vice president of Hyundai Motor Group's Vehicle Architecture Development Center.
E-GMP aims to underpin Hyundai Motor Group's plans toa total of 23 BEV models, including eleven dedicated BEV models, to introduce andworldwide by 2025more thana million BEVs to sell.
New charging system
Most existing EVs and fast charging infrastructure offer 50kWh to 150kWh charging for EVs equipped with a 400V system; However, the development of 800V infrastructure with up to 350kWh charging will gradually enable even faster charging.
In line with this trend, Hyundai Motor Group has invested as a strategic partner and shareholder in Ionity, Europe's leading high-performance charging network. Ionity operates 298 high-performance charging stations (HPC) with a charging capacity of up to 350 kWh along highways in European countries. The company plans to increase this number to 400 HPC stations by 2022, 53 of which are currently under construction.
E-GMP offers 800V charging capacity as standard and enables 400V charging without the need for additional components or adapters. TheMulti-charging system is the world's first patented technologyto increase 400V to 800V for stable charging compatibility.
