Hyundai Motor Group becomes Ionity partner

The two Korean sister companies want to improve the availability and convenience of charging stations for electric cars. From 2021, electric vehicles from Kia and Hyundai will be equipped with 800-volt charging systems in order to fully exploit the maximum charging power of 350 kilowatts that the Ionity network offers. By using the high power charging stations, charging times can be significantly shortened and long-distance journeys made easier. Ionity is a joint venture between the BMW Group, Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company and the Volkswagen Group with Porsche AG founded in 2017 and currently operates around 140 charging stations in Europe. Another 50 are under construction. The stations work with the universal charging standard CCS (Combined Charging System) and thereby ensure the greatest possible compatibility with a wide range of electric vehicles. By 2020, Ionity will expand its network to 400 fast charging stations, so that there will be an Ionity station approximately every 120 kilometers along major European highways.
