Hyundai Kona: So small and already all-wheel drive

Feel: The premium interior equipment with leather package leaves nothing to be desired in terms of comfort and also delights the eye with decorative stitching and applications in the color of the exterior paintwork. All buttons, dials and switches are in the usual places, so you don't have to study the operating instructions before driving off. Of course there are seat and steering wheel heating, and as a luxurious feature there is even seat cooling. On the outside, the slot-shaped LED daytime running lights above the headlights are particularly appealing. If you look at the operating instructions, you will get to know the invisible helpers such as emergency braking, lane keeping, blind spot and high beam assistants as well as cross traffic and drowsiness warnings.

Drive: Powerful acceleration and strong pulling power, no question, but I would actually have expected a little more lightness from a 4.17 meter short compact. The relatively high weight of just under 1.5 tons is due, among other things, to the all-wheel drive, which independently distributes its drive power to the individual wheels as required. The steering is precise and the driving behavior is quite agile, but if you don't necessarily need all-wheel drive, the front-wheel drive car with 115 hp and manual transmission is a much cheaper alternative.

Load: Despite its shortness, the backbenchers in the Kona also sit comfortably, which is thanks, among other things, to the vehicle's impressive width of 1.80 meters. The trunk holds a decent 361 liters of luggage, and even 1,143 liters with the rear seats folded down.

Conclusion: The pro arguments include the great, distinctive design, which undoubtedly enriches the street scene. In my opinion, the all-wheel drive with 177 hp and the relatively high average consumption of 8.8 liters of gasoline per 100 km are better suited to a larger SUV; in the Kona, the cheaper and more economical 115 hp unit with front-wheel drive is completely sufficient.
