High-voltage training at a glance
There are still free high-voltage training dates at the Automotive Academy in October and November. We clarify what is taught in which training courses.

High-voltage training at a glance
Basically, there are currently three high-voltage training levels:
- HV 1 (EVAL-1)
- HV 2 (EVAL-2)
- HV 3 (EVAL-3)
TheTraining level HV 1 is suitable for employees who carry out the following activities in the workshop: Non-electrical technical activities on electrically powered road vehicles such as: changing tires, changing fluids, changing windows. Electrical engineering activities on the vehicle electrical system without contact with the high-voltage system, such as: 12V battery replacement, 12V equipment replacement.
TheTraining level HV 2 is suitable for employees who carry out the following activities in the workshop: disconnecting the high-voltage system, replacing HV components in a de-energized state, replacing the traction battery.
TheTraining level HV 3 is suitable for employees who carry out the following activities in the workshop: Working under voltage on the traction battery of electrically powered vehicles.
These activities apply to operationally safe vehicles, as there are work instructions from the manufacturer for each of these activities. In the case of vehicles that are not operationally safe, the employer must carry out a risk evaluation that shows who is allowed to carry out which activities. For example, it may be that a vehicle had a rear-end collision in which no HV component was affected. In this case, HV-1 training would be sufficient for non-electrical engineering activities. However, if an HV component is affected, it must be clarified whether the energy storage is also affected or not. If the energy storage has switched off in this case, HV-2 training is sufficient.
"If the energy storage device is affected, further activities may only be carried out by a qualified electrician who has received special training from the manufacturer. This special training level 4 is currently being developed by a working group of the international association "Ionitas", which I founded."says Deniz Kartal, Managing Director of Evalus GmbH and speaker at the Automotive Academy.
