Hertz buys 65,000 electric cars

Hertz will purchase up to 65,000 Polestar electric cars within a period of five years. The first vehicles are expected to be delivered in Europe in spring 2022, and in North America and Australia at the end of 2022. For Hertz, the partnership is part of the ongoing commitment to expand the areas of electrification, shared mobility and the digitalization of the customer experience. Hertz announced last October that it would offer its customers the largest electric vehicle rental fleet in North America and one of the largest in the world. The collaboration with Polestar is another important step on this path. Hertz is not only making the electric vehicles available to its business and private customers, but is also expanding the offering to ride-sharing services in order to further promote electrification.

“We are pleased to partner with Polestar and to integrate the brand’s premium electric vehicles into our private customers and car sharing fleets,” said Stephen Scherr, CEO of Hertz. Polestar is one of the driving forces behind the global growth of the electric vehicle market and is helping to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility. According to Polestar, the number of vehicles sold almost tripled in 2021 and sales are expected to double this year. Sales of 290,000 vehicles per year are expected by the end of 2025. “Thanks to the collaboration with a global pioneer like Hertz, the fascinating experience of driving an electric car will be accessible to a wide audience,” said Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. Hertz will initially order Polestar 2 vehicles, the Swedish performance brand's first volume model. The Polestar 2 features the world's first Google infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS for the premium electric car segment, delivering a dynamic overall package tailored to the driver.
