Günter Blümel is fighting for the world painter title
Fingers crossed soon – the German Body & Paint competition at Automechanika Frankfurt is just around the corner! Two dedicated master painters and airbrush professionals are competing for AkzoNobel, who are fighting with over ten other opponents for a place in the final of the first international Body & Paint World Championships. Günter Blümel from Vienna and Diego Del Nilo from Munich took up the challenge and each refined a bonnet according to the requirements.Günter Blümel from Vienna and Diego Del Nilo from Munich took up the challenge and each refined a bonnet according to the requirements.
According to the brief, the design should have a connection to the country and impress with its technical and creative sophistication. The work they have created on behalf of AkzoNobel in recent months promises to be an exciting competition. 54-year-old Günter Blümel, managing director of Autospenglerei Blümel GmbH in Vienna, is always looking for ways to refine his airbrush skills and implement them with unusual designs beyond everyday workshop life. He therefore gladly accepted the nomination for the competition. In his airbrush work, he is guided by an idea in his head and applies it directly to the hood without a sketch. For the body & paint work he combined various painting techniques with effect paints, pinstripes and gold leaf. The result is a varied and colorful design. He explains his motif: "I wanted to represent the connection between our countries Germany and Austria and, in addition to the two national flags, which are connected with a string, I chose the skylines of the two cities Vienna and Frankfurt. When implementing it, I wanted to incorporate as many working techniques from our workshop life as possible."
The grand finale will take place on September 16th.
Airbrush artist Diego Del Nilo also loves challenges. For him, they are a valuable opportunity to develop further: "I'm always trying out new things when airbrushing and I'm my toughest critic. The Body & Paint competition is a great platform through which I can gain a lot of new ideas." When developing his motif, he created a reference "to our current situation. Corona, climate change, political and social tensions, everything that is currently occupying us and causing a certain sadness. I want to counteract that with hope and liveliness." With the support of the vehicle paint company Gambs from Unterschleissheim, a work was created in black and white with buildings from Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich. A rainbow emerging from an airbrush connects the cities and symbolizes hope and new life.
The works will be presented to an expert jury on September 14, 2021. In addition, trade fair visitors on site and online have the opportunity to choose their personal favorite and from August 30th. until 13.09. to vote for the German Audience Award. The award ceremonies will take place on September 14th. (German final) and 16.9. (international final).
AkzoNobel is one of the main sponsors of the competition. Simon Handke, Head of Marketing DACH: "Compets like the Body & Paint Contest are a great opportunity to showcase the high-quality skills in the painting trade in terms of precision, technical skills and creative ideas. Many people associate painting work with 'paint and good' and fail to recognize the high level at which painters work and the technological possibilities the market offers. It is important to use competitions like the Body & Paint to arouse interest in this profession and to show its broad spectrum."
