On April 2, 2019, Friedrich Nagl received the Gold Medal of Honor for services to the Republic of Austria from Economics Minister Margarete Schramböck.

Friedrich Nagl has been committed to the interests of automotive technology at the federal level for 28 years. From 2009 to 2018 he held the position of Federal Guild Master of Automotive Technology. A particular concern of his was the ongoing technical development and modernization of dual training. Under his leadership, the automotive technician apprenticeship was modernized and adapted to the new requirements. In order to promote the positive image of the automotive technician profession in society, he established the “Athena Prize” in 2014 for the moral courage and social commitment of young people from the automotive technician community. Because of these and other achievements by Friedrich Nagl in his 33-year professional life in the automotive industry, the Federal President awarded Alexander Van der Bellen the Gold Medal of Honor of the Republic of Austria.
