At the center of the “Drive Labs” recently opened in Graz is an innovative driving simulator with which the robots behind the wheel of autonomous vehicles are supposed to learn human behavior. The researchers at the Virtual Vehicle Research Center want to use the complex digital tool to examine the interactions between drivers, passengers, vehicles and other road users in complex situations in order to create predictive models for human behavior. The aim is to bring the behavior of automated vehicles as close as possible to human reaction patterns and thus significantly increase acceptance and trustworthiness. Jost Bernasch, Managing Director of Virtual Vehicle, at the opening: “Our Drive Lab is intended to contribute to greater safety in the interaction between humans and computers in the future.”
