Eurotax: Development of diesel residual values
Diesel market share is falling. But what about the residual values of the vehicles?

Eurotax: Development of diesel residual values
In the fourth quarter of 2019, the market share of diesel-powered cars fell to 29.5% in Europe. In 2016, 49.2% of all new European car registrations were diesel powered. In theEurotax – Fuel Indexyou can see the development of diesel residual values (offer prices) by age group (in years). Referring to January 1, 2017, you can see that 0 to 1 year old vehicles suffered the lowest losses in value. Used diesel vehicles in the age groups between 1 and 8 years are more severely affected, with a decline of 7 to 8 index points. There are major losses in value for diesel vehicles over 8 years old, which fell by 13 points by mid-2019. In general, diesel residual values can be seen stabilizing from autumn 2019.
In summary, diesel residual values have fallen sharply since 2015. However, there are signs of a visible stabilization from spring 2019. The falling new diesel registrations in recent years would suggest that residual values will remain at this level in the near future.
