In the “Best engine up to 1 liter displacement” category, Ford’s 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine was named “International Engine of the Year” for the sixth time in a row.

This year, the innovative Ford three-cylinder engine prevailed against 35 competing products. Previously, 58 specialist journalists from 31 countries assessed the high-tech petrol direct injection engine on aspects such as performance, economy, technologies and driving behavior. Dean Slavnich, co-chair of the 19th International Engine of the Year event and editor-in-chief of Engine Technology International magazine, explained the decision: "The smallest-displacement Ford EcoBoost engine remains the best in its segment, despite more and more similarly compact engines being offered by competitors."
