The Sion, which is powered by solar energy and electricity from the socket, is intended to appeal primarily to middle-class city commuters with a range of 250 km and a purchase price of 16,000 euros (without battery). The battery is available for monthly rental or for a one-time purchase and should cost less than 4,000 euros.
On its tour through Europe, the startup collects pre-orders and investor money; last weekend the Sion stopped off in Freudenau in Vienna. Over 500 interested parties registered and completed short test drives on a defined circuit. “The people mainly come from the Vienna area, most of them have a garage with a socket at home,” reports Valentin Isert from Sono-Motors.
When the sun is shining, the solar cells integrated into the body generate electricity for a range of 30 kilometers per day; when the sky is cloudy, the figure is six kilometers, with an annual average of 12 kilometers, explains Isert. There are already enough pre-orders and series production of the Sion will start in the second quarter of 2019.
