A transformer” for the city
A car that increases its track width at the push of a button - no, the concept does not come from a GTI driver's wet dream - rather it was brought into reality by the Israeli startup “City Transformer”. His Micro-Car CT-1 is a purely electrically powered city runabout for a maximum of two people sitting behind each other, a range of up to 180 kilometers and a weight of less than 450 kilograms. The narrow vehicle is reminiscent of the Renault Twizy, but in contrast to the French microcar pioneer, the CT-1 is equipped with two completely closing wing doors and a revolutionary track width adjustment: at the push of a button, the chassis can be extended from one meter to 1.40 meters wide, which enormously improves road holding and enables a top speed of 90 km/h. With the landing gear retracted, the driving speed of the CT-1 is limited to a maximum of 25 km/h. It can be parked in parking spaces that would otherwise only accommodate motorcycles.
City Transformer has currently completed the A-round financing of the CT-1 with investments of $10 million. The main investor is the Lubinski Group, one of Israel's most renowned and largest car importers with 160 service and repair workshops in Germany as well as sales locations in France and Eastern Europe. Other investors include private individuals and multinational companies from the transport and real estate sectors. With the help of the financial injection, City Transformer will prepare the market launch of the CT-1 as planned for 2024. The company wants to win customers in Europe as well as in North America and Israel with an innovative “Mobility-as-a-Service” business model.
Dani Shavit, CEO of the Lubinski Group, comments: “Our inner-city transport model is ripe for a revolution – it urgently needs fresh ideas to improve the quality of life in metropolitan regions.” Asaf Formoza, CEO and founder of City Transformer, adds: “With Israeli innovative thinking and German engineering, we want to be part of the movement that is driving changes in how mobility can be designed in big cities.” City Transformer has recently started offering private individuals the opportunity to pre-order a CT-1. The “city vehicle of the future” is now available in a limited number for €150 www.citytransformer.com be reserved.
