eFuel Alliance calls for a clear line
There is still no compromise in the federal government about what position Germany should take in the so-called phase-out of combustion engines in Europe. The eFuel Alliance advocates for a changed regulatory approach.

eFuel Alliance calls for a clear line
Allowing plug-in hybrids or range extenders as exemptions are only cosmetic solutions—they do not solve the underlying problem of life cycle greenhouse gas emissions.
eFuel Alliance General Manager Ralf Diemer: "If Germany wants to play a strong role in the EU process, it needs a clear position. This position opens up a view of the total emissions of a vehicle by including renewable fuels in the regulation. A combustion engine can be operated cleanly, whether as a range extender, plug-in hybrid or as a pure combustion engine. All that is needed are renewable fuels and regulation that takes them into account."
It is important to define combustion engines that run exclusively on renewable fuels as zero-emission vehicles in a vehicle class. This decision was already made by the EU Council last year. The Commission refuses to pick up this ball and is now trying to integrate the issue into the renewed revision of the CO2 fleet regulation and thus postpone it further. The federal government must react here, demands Diemer.
