EBV tip: The car that doesn't officially exist
When creating §57a reports - the so-called Pickerl - data must be compared with the approval database. But what if a vehicle, such as a classic car, is no longer stored in the registration records or a typo leads to an error message? We show you how to do it correctly.

EBV tip: The car that doesn't officially exist
During the lockdown, many owners of a historic vehicle had time to finally restore their treasure, which may have been slumbering in the garage for years. Now that spring is approaching, the day is approaching when you can harvest the fruits of your labor: the first trip with the good thing. But what if a classic car like this is no longer found in the registration office's registration records when it is newly registered because it has already been deleted?
Basically, the following applies: Every motor vehicle registered in Austria is stored in the registration records - with vehicle identification number (FIN), first registration date (EZ) and official registration number. If a report is created for the Pickerl, the first registration date plus the license plate or the first registration date plus the VIN must always be entered in order to compare the data from the report with the database of the registration office in Austria during the check.
To do this, you must press the “Registration database” button to load the vehicle data. However, if there is a typing error in the multi-digit VIN, the date of first registration or the license plate number, a window will appear with an error message - the report cannot be created.
Three sources of error
When it comes to the inspection report for Pickerl, there are three sources of error that you should check: the vehicle identification number, the date of initial registration and the license plate number. If all three data sets have been entered correctly according to the registration certificate and the error message still appears during data comparison, the error can only have occurred when importing the vehicle data into the registration record. From here on, the licensing authorities or offices of the state governments are responsible.
Workshops and EBV users as well as the automotive hotline cannot correct or change data records in the registration records. If an error message occurs despite correct entry, the vehicle owner must take the vehicle documents to the registration office and have the stored data corrected. Only then can test reports be created.
4 steps to the registration report
However, if vehicles were deregistered a long time ago and are therefore no longer stored in the registration records - as is often the case with historical vehicles, i.e. vintage cars - no reports (registration reports) can be created for these vehicles. To solve this problem, the following steps must be followed in Austria:
1. Check entry of vehicle data. The most common input errors include the following:
– FIN is entered with dots or zeros.
– License plate is entered even though it is a registration certificate.
– Instead of the first registration date, the creation date of the type certificate is entered.
2. If the error message persists, send a copy of the approval document (type certificate, individual approval notice, CoC or data extract) and the initial approval date to the assessment program support.
3. The support staff will arrange for the data record to be created in the approval database at ZBD.
4. After the vehicle has been recorded in the registration database, the assessment office is finally notified with the information that the vehicle has been entered in the registration records.
