E-switchers are gaining momentum

According to the latest survey by the Gallup Institute on behalf of VAV Versicherungs-AG, three percent of those surveyed are currently specifically planning to buy an electric car, and 16 percent may want to buy one. At five percent, there are significantly more men than women among those switching, of whom only two percent are determined to buy. Of those who vote for eventual, 17 percent are men and 15 percent are women. Sven Rabe, CEO of VAV Versicherung: “Electromobility in the vehicle segment, including hybrid vehicles, is continuously increasing.” At the end of 2020, the number of electric and hybrid vehicles still accounted for around 2.6% of the total number of registered cars.

The younger, the more motivated

The detailed analysis shows that 30 - 49 year olds are more inclined towards electric drives than other age groups, with 21 percent saying “yes” or “maybe”. Self-employed people, freelancers and senior managers show the highest motivation among all professional groups with seven percent saying “yes” and 20 percent saying “maybe”. Better school education and higher income also promote approval of electric cars. Seven percent of high school students and university graduates chose “yes” and 22 percent chose “possibly”. For incomes over 3,000 euros per month, the yes votes were also seven percent and the possible votes were 22 percent. It is striking that among schoolchildren and students, if they were to buy a car at all, 12 percent would definitely choose an e-car and 18 percent might.
