E-mobility: Workshops and tire shops have to adapt

Electromobility (pure electric cars and hybrid models) is becoming increasingly important for vehicle workshops: Above all, companies have to adapt to new circumstances when it comes to maintenance - the new models do not receive an oil change, no battery in the classic sense and there is no need to change spark plugs. At the same time, the new technology also offers the opportunity to reach a new target group. Compared to conventional vehicles, the selection of electric vehicles is still small - this also applies to the tire market. However, major manufacturers are increasingly developing suitable tire models for the growing segment. In order to be able to serve customers optimally, motor vehicle companies should increasingly position themselves in the e-vehicle segment in the future. This creates new challenges for companies - especially in the service processes: maintenance and repairs are reduced due to fewer components, fewer wear parts can be sold, and other services are added. Additionally there is one High voltage training necessary to be able to safely maintain the Stromer and partial Stromer.

Differences in tires

Changing tires in electric vehicles as well as the tires and their properties are currently undergoing a change. On the one hand, very narrow tires are used on certain types of electric vehicles, which ensure energy-efficient driving thanks to low air resistance and little abrasion. On the other hand, there are electric vehicles that have very wide tires in comparison. Both types of tires show the wide range of driving: optimal energy consumption or maximized performance. Whether narrow or wide, both variants cannot avoid one aspect - high load capacity. Electric cars simply weigh more due to the battery, so the tire must be robust. Which type of tire the driver chooses depends on their own wishes and driving behavior. "In principle, any electric car tire can also be used for a combustion engine. But the issue of range plays a particularly important role in electric vehicles. For this reason, label class A tires with low rolling resistance and very good wet braking properties are particularly popular," says Thorsten Orbach, Head of B2B at Autoreifenonline.at. The online portal makes it easy to find suitable, high-quality tires for customers with electric cars. Whether summer, winter or all-season tires: here dealers can find the right one at a glance - simply enter the respective customer vehicle in the search mask. The EU tire labeling in the area of fuel efficiency also helps with the selection.
