E-mobility in the fast lane

The rapid growth of electromobility in Europe is being driven by strong government incentives and legal requirements. By 2025, the electric share of new car sales should already be 27% - ahead of China (19%) and the USA (6%). However, the speed of setting up the charging infrastructure could soon become an obstacle to growth. More long-term growth is expected for the smart mobility sector with intelligent mobility solutions beyond vehicle ownership. With the increasing number of offers for car subscriptions or flexible rental options, this market will grow the most, especially in Europe, and will account for at least 10% of the total kilometers traveled per person by 2025. China, on the other hand, will be the largest growth market for passive smart mobility forms such as ride-hailing by 2025 (10% compared to 3% in Europe and 1% in the USA).

The will to change

Awareness of CO2-Saving mobility behavior is strong in Europe, as shown by a consumer survey in Germany, the USA and China. In Germany, 70% of respondents are willing to change their mobility behavior to reduce CO2to save. In China, almost all citizens (97%) say they want to reduce CO through their mobility behavior2contribute, in the USA it is 52%. But despite a high level of willingness to use their own CO2In order to reduce their footprint, the Germans are signaling a strong affinity for private transport even after the corona pandemic has subsided. Almost half of them want to cover shorter distances on foot or by bike in the future, 26% plan to completely avoid short-haul flights and 18% say they will switch from a combustion engine to an electric car for the sake of the environment (China: 61%, USA: 30%). For 55%, the biggest obstacle to using sustainable mobility concepts such as bike/car sharing or public transport are prices that are too high, while 23% would like better availability or more offers.
