E-car funding will continue

The e-mobility offensive of the Climate Protection Ministry (BMK) will continue in 2022. Together with automobile importers, the purchase of an electric car by private individuals will also be subsidized with 5,000 euros from 2022. The charging infrastructure will also continue to receive funding, with wallboxes costing around 600 euros and shared facilities in apartment buildings costing 1,800 euros. There is up to 30,000 euros for company and public fast charging stations.

67.2 million euros for e-mobility

The Ministry of Climate Protection is making a total of 167.2 million euros available for the promotion of e-mobility in Austria for 2022. Around half of this will come from funds from the European Commission's Corona Reconstruction Fund.

"Our future is clean and climate-friendly. That's why we are continuing the successful e-mobility offensive next year. In this way, we are supporting the switch to emission-free cars and thus protecting our climate," said Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.

The condominium law is being amended

In addition to promoting private cars, the focus is on large funding programs for buses and commercial vehicles. There will also be funding for companies again next year. The details are currently being worked out. The new funding will start in February 2022 - until then there will still be sufficient funds available from the 2021 e-mobility offensive.

“We all need good news at the end of the year,” says Andreas Reinhardt, chairman of the BEÖ (Federal Association for Electric Mobility), commenting on the continuation of the funding. And he also points out what he sees as the second piece of good news: the amendment to the Condominium Ownership Act (WEG) should make it easier to install charging stations in apartment buildings from January 2022. “In the future, a two-thirds majority of votes will be sufficient,” explains Reinhardt.
