Three reasons not to buy an electric car
Although over 20 percent of the 2,045 respondents stated that they already drive an electric car or a hybrid, a total of almost 50 percent reported that an electric car would not be an option for them when buying a new car - despite all the demands and subsidies. The reasons for this are clear: the purchase costs are still too high (78 percent), the range is perceived as too low (71 percent), and the charging infrastructure is poorly developed, or there is no charging option at all at home or in the company parking lot. Nevertheless, in December 2021, the share of electric cars in the total registration figures in Germany climbed to over 21 percent for the first time. One reason for the boom in our neighboring country is the government funding of up to 9,000 euros, which can still be applied for until the end of 2022. Around 15 percent of those surveyed answered that they had chosen or would choose a model precisely because of the possibility of state funding.
