This thing really stinks!

“Stinky things are getting more expensive.” This is how Werner Kogler explained the government's tax plans. The man who likes to accuse political opponents of cheap populism doesn't exactly shine as an intellectual. The entire government is not convincing with its prudent policy.

In particular, the NoVA for light commercial vehicles makes no sense. In addition to redistribution, a tax can serve two purposes: a fiscal purpose or a steering purpose. The government postulates the latter. Of course, there would have to be alternatives suitable for everyday use, which is hardly the case with trucks. In fact, modern vehicles are becoming more expensive and old “stinkers” will probably continue to run longer. A shot in the foot in terms of steering policy.

But maybe it's just about money, i.e. the fiscal purpose. The state needs revenue. However, it makes no sense to immediately hit the companies that you save in the crisis with the tax club. This will primarily affect SMEs and ultimately consumers. And the stinkers stay on the streets longer. In short, the business party in government is damaging the economy and the environmental party is damaging the environment.
