An important prerequisite for the success of environmentally friendly electromobility is the safe use of the high-voltage electrical systems installed in the vehicles. The Austrian Association for Electrical Engineering (OVE) has therefore adapted its guideline R 19 to the current requirements in workshops and car dealerships. The new version of Directive R 19 contains valuable information for employers and employees on how they can identify electrical hazards and avoid hazards. It also describes the qualification measures necessary for the safe use of HV systems. The main changes compared to the 2015 edition concern, among other things, the term “HV intrinsically safe vehicle”, which is omitted in the current version. In addition, a total of five training levels are defined and there are new appendices, for example on how to deal with damaged electric vehicles or how to design a safe workplace for vehicles with damaged lithium batteries. The OVE guideline R 19 was published on June 1, 2021 and is now available in the OVE webshop www.ove.at/shop/ available.
