Many vehicle owners only check their batteries when they have problems. A recent YouGov survey commissioned by CTEK illustrates how common teething problems are.

Half of drivers neglect battery maintenance

According to the survey, over 21 percent of car owners in Germany have had starting difficulties in the past two years. More than half of respondents say they know little about battery maintenance. Around a fifth never check the battery, another 44 percent only when there are acute problems. A similar picture emerges when idle for longer periods: 55% of drivers do not take any precautions to keep the battery in good condition, even though cars use electricity for various systems such as alarm systems, central locking systems, control units and infotainment systems even when idle. A lack of precaution increases the risk of breakdowns, especially in winter, as batteries deliver less power when it is cold.

Electric vehicles are also affected: 58 percent of those surveyed do not know that they have a 12V starter battery that needs to be maintained regularly. CTEK is therefore announcing Charge Your Car Day for the sixth time on October 5th to raise awareness of regular battery care.
