The German market is going into reverse again

The joy only lasted for a short time: After the German car market achieved an increase in new registrations for the first time this year in September, it was over again in October. As the Federal Motor Transport Authority announced, 274,303 new cars hit the road for the first time in October - 3.6 percent fewer than a year ago. In 2020 as a whole, 2.3 million new car registrations after ten months mean a decrease of 23.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

The private and fleet markets showed different trends in October: While private registrations rose by 6.8 percent compared to the same month last year, new commercial registrations fell by 9.1 percent. There were also enormous differences between the individual brands: Dacia increased by around 58 percent, Renault by around 28 percent and Audi by around 23 percent. At the other end of the spectrum, Mazda recorded a drop in new registrations of more than 38 percent, while Ford and Mitsubishi saw declines of around 25 percent. VW was also one of the losers with a loss of 17 percent.
