The fastest production BMW of all time

With its two-seater configuration, model-specific refined chassis technology and individual equipment features, the new BMW M4 CSL is consistently designed for use on the racetrack. The civilian road version of the motorsport counterpart BMW M4 GT3 achieved the best lap times ever recorded for a BMW Group production vehicle on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In the comparison measurement over 20.6 kilometers (excluding the straight at section T13) he achieved a value of 7:15.677 minutes. The official and notarized time for the 20.832 kilometer full lap is 7:20.207 minutes. The values of 3.7 seconds for the sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h and 10.7 seconds for the acceleration from zero to 200 km/h are also impressive.

The abbreviation CSL stands for “Competition, Sport, Lightweight Construction” and refers to the central importance of a weight-optimized design for success in racing. The curb weight of the special model is a slim 1,625 kilograms and corresponds to a power-to-weight ratio of 2.95 kilograms per horsepower. The drive unit is based on the same 3.0 liter in-line six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and high-revving characteristics as the engine used in the BMW M4 GT3 racing car. The maximum torque of 650 Nm is available between 2750 and 5950 rpm. It reaches its maximum output of 405 kW/550 hp at a speed of 6250 rpm. With the standard M Traction Control, the wheel slip limitation intervention thresholds can be individually adjusted during racing. On dry roads, controlled drift maneuvers are supported in levels 1 to 5. Levels 6 to 10 are based on the application developed for competition vehicles in touring car racing and take into account not only the condition of the road surface but also the tire temperatures in order to ensure maximum traction and driving stability.

The BMW M4 CSL recently celebrated its world premiere as part of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. It will be produced in a limited edition of exactly 1,000 units at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing from July 2022. The BMW laser light headlights, which are available as optional extras, set a particularly striking accent at the front of the new BMW M4 CSL. They shine in yellow both during the welcome staging after the doors are unlocked and when the low and high beams are activated, thus referencing successful GT racing vehicles. The base price of the BMW M4 CSL in Austria is 210,000 euros. In the WLTP cycle, its fuel consumption is quite moderate at around 10 liters per 100 kilometers, but on the racetrack it is certainly significantly higher.
