Jaguar Land Rover launches Amazon Alexa integration across its entire vehicle range. The voice assistant from Amazon allows you to control navigation, music and phone calls, manage appointment calendars, listen to news and weather forecasts and control smart household appliances from the car - just by asking questions and without using a phone. The advantage: your hands can stay on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road. But Alexa doesn't just drive in new vehicles; in the next few weeks it will also be sent to over 200,000 existing vehicles with a "software-over-the-air" update and thus offered to owners free of charge as a new, practical function.
Smart companion
Jaguar Land Rover and Amazon engineering teams worked closely to seamlessly integrate Alexa into the Pivi Pro infotainment system. Alexa understands frequently used commands, making the operating experience intuitive. Commands like “Alexa, drive me home,” “Alexa, play my chill-out list,” or “Alexa, show me nearby restaurants” can be done using voice alone and without touching the Pivi Pro touchscreen. You can also use Alexa to check the news and the weather forecast or organize your appointment calendar and shopping list. Christian Mentz, Head of Alexa Automotive International, promises: “As Alexa gets smarter, we will automatically add new features and capabilities to your vehicle over time.” The set-up is simple: customers can link the Alexa function to their InControl account by scanning a QR code on the Pivi Pro touchscreen and then follow a few simple operating steps.
