David Beckham invests in electric car company

Lunaz is the name of the company that was founded in 2019 by classic car enthusiast David Lorenz. The company, based in Silverstone, England, is dedicated to the business of converting British classics, such as the Rolls Royce Phantom V, manufactured from 1959 to 1968, or the Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Historical Range Rovers and Jaguars have also been electrified.

The components of the electric drive used, including the up to 600 hp motors, are not simply purchased from other manufacturers or suppliers, but are designed in-house by Lunaz's in-house team of experienced car engineers. The work is being led by Jon Hilton, who was once technical director of Renault's Formula 1 stable and worked for Rolls Royce at the beginning of his career.

Recuperating braking systems

Of course, it's not just clumsy electric motors and lithium-ion batteries that are implanted into cars. In view of the significantly increased performance and the increase in weight, this would simply be negligent. Lunaz Design is installing, among other things, a completely new and recuperating brake system with discs all around, as well as modern power steering and assistance systems such as cruise control or traction control in the classics, which are up to 70 years old.

The extensive renovation work is of course reflected in the prices: the cheapest model starts at the equivalent of around 300,000 euros. However, the base vehicle, which is usually in poor condition before the conversion, is already included.

Now none other than David Beckham has gotten a taste for it: the former football idol has invested in Lunaz and secured a ten percent stake. “Lunaz represents British ingenuity in technology and design,” the prominent investor is quoted as saying on the classic car experts’ Instagram page.
