Objectively the most beautiful car in the world
Beauty is a matter of taste: British experts have determined which cars deviate at least from the golden ratio and therefore correspond to mathematically defined visual perfection.

Objectively the most beautiful car in the world

1994 McLaren F1 in front of the 1970 Lamborghini Miura and the 1957 Ferrari TR250. In theory, these are the three most beautiful cars of all time. Click4reg, a British provider of customized license plates, used the dimensions (length, width, height) to determine which classic cars had the greatest perfection according to the golden ratio.
The golden ratio is, in a sense, the mathematical formula for beauty, a design rule known since ancient times that describes the ratio of two sizes to each other. The ratio of the golden ratio is not only important in mathematics, art or architecture, but can also be found in nature, for example in the arrangement of leaves and in the inflorescences of some plants. The infinite number sequence of the Fibonacci numbers is closely related to the golden ratio.
In the design world, the golden ratio is all about creating aesthetics - a feeling of beauty - using harmonious proportions. It is precisely this harmony and proportionality that has been found in countless masterpieces for thousands of years - from the pyramids of Giza to the Parthenon in Athens, Michelangelo's "The Creation of Adam" on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel to the logos of Pepsi or Twitter.
The visually perfect automobile
Click4reg has now applied the golden ratio to cars. To do this, the list of the 50 most beautiful cars of all time created by the car portal Autocar.co.uk was used as a basis and then, based on the dimensions of the respective cars, it was determined how close they came to the golden ratio. The 1994 McLaren F1 deviated the least, namely by only 1.33%.
Two years ago, a somewhat tuned example of the noble speedster was sold at an RM Sotheby's auction in California for an impressive $19.8 million (the equivalent of almost 18 million euros) (see picture).
As far as the manufacturers are concerned, overall victory goes to Ferrari. The Italians brought the most models into the top positions of the most beautiful cars of all time. Second place in the brand ranking also goes to an Italian brand, Alfa Romeo, followed by two traditionally British brands, Aston Martin and Jaguar. Almost all of the most beautiful cars were produced before the turn of the millennium, most in the 1960s and only a few after 2000.
