The car without a steering wheel will come
This is the consensus from the last GSV forum on the topic “Impacts of digitalization on our mobility”.

The car without a steering wheel will come

“Mobility is upside down,” says Martin Russ, CEO of AustriaTech, and adds, “We are experiencing more than just a paradigm shift.” In the future, infrastructure, vehicles and services will be completely tailored to customer needs. Thomas Waschke, who comes from the German automotive industry, emphasizes that the service itself is becoming a product and that the beginning of digitalization will be “extremely expensive”.
And: Connected mobility goes far beyond autonomous driving - it's about completely new mobility services. Oliver Schmerold, ÖAMTC association director, presented an exciting, Europe-wide survey: 76% of drivers are interested in vehicle networking, 18% want to choose it the next time they buy a car, but 95% of those surveyed demand a legal regulation to protect the data generated.
According to the survey, the motives for the high level of support for networked mobility are: 56% expect more safety, 48% expect fuel savings and 39% expect less traffic jams. Karin Tausz, who is responsible for autonomous driving at the Swiss Federal Railways, says quite simply that self-driving vehicles will definitely be a “game changer”.
