The car as a protective shield against Corona

In order to shed light on the economic consequences of the Corona crisis beyond subjective assessments, the Nuremberg market research company puls surveyed a representative sample of 1,054 people in Germany about the effects of Corona on the purchase and use of cars. According to the puls study, 55 percent of those surveyed say that the Corona crisis is causing them to switch from public transport to cars because they are better protected against infection there. When it comes to buying cars, on the one hand, 29 percent are putting their planned car purchase on hold due to the uncertainty caused by Corona. On the other hand, 8 percent say that the Corona crisis will encourage them to buy cars. Among younger people who have been particularly “autocritical,” this proportion is as high as 18 percent. “Obviously, protection against infection not only promotes the use of cars, but also the purchase,” says puls managing director Konrad Weßner, commenting on the results of the study. The time after Corona definitely promises to be exciting for the automotive industry, as only 28 percent of Germans say that Corona has no influence on the purchase and use of cars.
