Covid-19 measures completely ineffective for the industry
The investment bonus offered by the federal government excludes conventionally operated cars and trucks and therefore proves to be "useless" for the automotive industry, criticizes Karl-Heinz Rauscher, WKO.

Covid-19 measures completely ineffective for the industry
“Promotion exclusively for electromobility is almost irrelevant to value creation and employment for Austrian industrial companies, especially since electric vehicles only affect around three percent of annual production output and around 1,200 jobs in the vehicle industry,” says Rauscher. Even if support for e-mobility in itself represents a clear positive signal for this future technology, it is unsuitable as an economic stimulus measure. This also applies to the possibility of degressive depreciation, which is anchored in the Economic Strengthening Act and only applies to vehicles that have an emissions value of zero.
Automobile importers: Federal government's intentions incomprehensible
Approval comes from Günther Kerle, spokesman for the automobile importers: "The investment bonus is in itself a good economic stimulus measure, but it does not represent any support for the automobile industry, as it only includes emission-free vehicles or plug-in hybrids and range extenders, which currently only play a marginal role in the real drive mix on the road. In the first half of the year, new registrations of passenger cars have already fallen by more than a third due to the Corona crisis. That is conventional “The fact that operated vehicles are now specifically excluded from the planned investment bonus, as was already the case with the degressive AfA, is discriminatory in every respect. The Federal Government’s intentions are in no way understandable to us.” A stable car market would stimulate the economic engine in Austria: after all, the entire Austrian automotive industry represents 315,000 jobs and a gross value added of 26 billion euros. A large number of innovative companies - including those from the strong Austrian supplier industry - generate a gross production value of 67 billion euros annually.
