It is the first bearing made of this material to be used in the chassis on both the front and rear axles of passenger cars. Compared to previous variants made of steel or aluminum, it offers a weight saving of around 25 percent and a longer service life. At the same time, driving comfort is increased thanks to a highly insulating rubber element. Together with General Motors LCC, ContiTech has developed the support bearing for the new Cadillac CT6, which will be launched on the market at the end of 2015. “High-performance plastics are the material of the future in the automotive sector,” says Kai Frühauf, division manager at ContiTech Vibration Control.
