Castrol is restructuring its production capacities in the lubricants business in Europe. The aim is to bundle production and distribution for the Austrian market primarily in other European plants and thus create more efficient locations overall. Production in Wiener Neudorf will be stopped by mid-2021 and capacities will be relocated to the other plants. "We want to make the lubricants business more efficient and powerful in order to ensure our long-term competitiveness and future viability. Permanent optimization processes play a major role in this," says Andreas Osbar, member of the board of BP Europa SE and responsible for the lubricants business. “With the planned restructuring of the production sites, we are not only improving our profitability and logistics, but also reducing CO2-Emissions due to the elimination of complex supply chains.”

At the Wiener Neudorf site, Castrol produces high-quality lubricants such as engine, transmission and hydraulic oils as well as various special products. Since volumes have already shifted internationally over the past few years, it now makes strategic sense to concentrate on fewer, but larger and more clearly profiled locations. The closure of the plant in Wiener Neudorf will result in the loss of 38 jobs. Gerlinde Hofer, Managing Director of Castrol Austria: "We are aware that the planned cuts are very painful. And we also know the responsibility we bear as a company. That is why we will implement the upcoming changes in close coordination with the local employee representatives as fairly and socially acceptable as possible." "The goal is to keep the business in Europe on the road to success in a rapidly changing environment. This also and especially applies to Austria, where we want to continue to grow and will continue to be there for our customers to the usual extent with our sales and consulting professionals," explains Andreas Osbar.
