Bosch on the road to recovery
In 2020, Bosch was severely affected by the effects of the pandemic and the global decline in the automotive market; in 2021, there will be an upswing in all business areas.

Bosch on the road to recovery
Overall, the Bosch Group in Austria generated sales of 1.23 billion euros in the 2020 financial year - this corresponds to a decline of 12 percent compared to the previous year. “We got off to a good start in 2021,” said Helmut Weinwurm, CEO of Robert Bosch AG. The manager expects another challenging Corona year, but sees an upward trend in all areas within the Bosch Group in Austria for 2021 as a whole. When it comes to drive development for cars and commercial vehicles, Bosch is open to technology, while at the same time pushing forward e-mobility and further developing technology for combustion engines. “In order to achieve the climate goals, in addition to e-mobility, we also need alternative fuels, because this means that combustion engines can also be climate-neutral,” explains Weinwurm. Austria has established itself as an important development location for all types of drives within the Bosch Group. Bosch in Austria is also working on innovative solutions in the areas of the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. At the beginning of the year, a Viennese development team was set up that belongs to the new Cross-Domain Computing Solutions division. This is where the hardware and software development for new electronic architectures in the vehicle are bundled. More than 142 million euros, or around 12 percent of sales, went into research and development at Bosch in Austria in 2020.
